Photography, for me, is deeply personal. It is a quiet practice, an escape, a pause that allows me to slow down, notice the world around me, and connect with the moments in between. Over time it has trained my eye to see deeply and observe with intention.
The images from Beyond the Shadows echo that journey. They are an invitation to look closer, to step into a dreamlike world. Many of the images are reflections. They have been captured in a broken mirror found by the side of the road or in water, or through glass. Layer upon layer, each photograph blurs the boundary between what is real and what is perceived.
Two distinct threads run through this collection; both rooted in the natural environment. One explores greenhouses as monuments to a past industry, their beauty revealed in decay as nature slowly reclaims them. The other is grounded in the familiar: my garden, my workplace, the routes I drive or walk each day. These images convey not only the rhythms of daily life but also a deeper connection, placing the ordinary within a larger, almost ethereal context.
The lines between the real and the imagined dissolve, creating a distorted yet beautiful abstract images. What is visible and what is obscured become part of the same story. The images serve as portals, encouraging reflection on the beauty of the overlooked corners of the everyday. They transport the viewer to realms that exist just beyond the surface, inviting introspection, and challenging perception.
This collection is testament to my experimental approach. Often, the most compelling images emerge not from seeking perfection but from simply being present and capturing what unfolds before me. It’s a mindful practice, a positive distraction that helps me transport myself from the moment and into something more.
I invite you to explore these works not just as photographs, but as a journey of discovery, both of the world around us and the depths within.
